Welcome to the group on the Yamal Peninsula and Western Siberia! Our goal is to publicize this beautiful land from various viewpoints, from geography, from the environment and giving special significance to the people of these territories. Currently, the Yamal Peninsula, located in western Siberia, is highly topical because of two reasons. The first is the wealth of fossil fuels, both gas and oil, making it a basic geostrategic point for Russian interests. Moreover, this area is subject to drastic change in its current condition due to possible effects of global warming on the fragile ecosystem. These impacts are felt primarily on the nomadic peoples of this vast region. In the future, many of the posts will be devoted to the various peoples of the tundra, making known their traditions, language and suffering threats to their livelihoods. We hope to open an attractive and interactive group, so we are looking forward to have your participation. In addition, our blog will give further information to those who are interested in this beautiful and amazing land.
